Intro to Place Data

We use the Iggy Feature Catalog to categorize places in the poi data source. This ontology consists of three levels – category, segment, and feature – with descriptions and examples

Feature Catalog

Iggy Features are computed across all **929 Census Bureau-defined Core-Based Statistical Areas** (CBSAs).

Dataset Statistics and Coverage

Iggy quantifies places using several approaches. For more detail on what happens behind the scenes, see the Spatial Compute Engine section.

Measures of Place

When we normalize a Feature, we are scaling its base value by some other quantity. For example, converting the raw counts of nearby grocery stores to a per capita estimate, by dividing the number of nearby grocery stores by the population within the same area.
